The big picture: The coronavirus’ racial and socioeconomic disparities, and multiple instances of fatal police violence — especially George Floyd’s videotaped killing — have driven millions of Americans of all races to demand something better.

• Inequities and calls for change are taking place across education, hiring, the workplace, investment and finance, police and the justice system, health, food and nutrition, neighborhoods and housing, politics and governance, sports, entertainment, broadband access, and science.

Black Americans are stopped at higher rates by police, arrested at higher rates, killed by police at higher rates, given longer sentences, fill disproportionate shares of death row.”

In predominantly minority neighborhoods, schools are often underfunded, public transportation tends to be inadequate, renters likely have to spend more of their income on housing, and access to job training and upward economic mobility opportunities can be hard to come by.”

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos is willing to testify before the House about the tech company’s competitive practices, a company spokesperson confirmed to POLITICO on Monday, a major breakthrough in talks between lawmakers and the e-commerce behemoth that staves off the prospect of a high-stakes legal bout.

House Judiciary Committee leaders in May threatened to subpoena the CEO’s testimony on Amazon’s treatment of third-party vendors, marking a major escalation in the panel’s antitrust investigation into the tech sector.

The company later said in response it was willing to offer an “appropriate” executive to testify, but did not commit to have Bezos testify. House lawmakers recently dialed up pressure for Amazon, Facebook, Apple and Google’s parent Alphabet to commit to having their CEOs testify, giving the companies until Sunday to respond, according to an Axios report. The other companies have yet to publicly say whether they will comply.

One person injured after man drives car into George Floyd rally in Seattle, opens fire – report

A man has been arrested after driving a car into a police barricade at a protest against police brutality in Seattle’s Capitol Hill area. The man reportedly fired his gun, injuring one person, before he fled the scene.

Video of the incident shows the man driving into a barricade. Protesters first rush toward his car and begin hitting it, only scattering after the man appears to fire his gun out the window. He then exits the vehicle with gun drawn as protesters scatter. The man was apprehended shortly thereafter by police.

Seattle Fire Department reported that one person was shot at the intersection of 11th Ave. and Pine St, where the incident took place on Sunday evening. A 27-year-old male victim has been taken to hospital and is in a stable condition.

Police reported that they “recovered a gun” after bringing the shooting suspect into custody.

The identity of the man, who rammed the barricade, as well as his motives, are yet unknown.

Last night’s horrific attack on an unarmed, elderly man by Buffalo police is only the latest and sharpest example of a lie—the officers claimed he tripped—exposed by video.

You have a right to record the police

Everyone in the United States — citizen or resident — has a constitutional right to record police who are performing their public duties. The police don’t have the right to stop you as long as you’re not disrupting their business, and they aren’t allowed to confiscate your phone or camera just because you were recording them. This is the consistent opinion of federal courts and the Supreme Court, which affirmed in 2014 (in a 9-0 decision) that cops need a warrant if they want to seize and search your cellphone.
