Wildfires Turn Bay Area Skies Orange

It was a strange scene in the Bay Are of Northern California this morning as smoke from wildfires turned the skies a bright orange. The San Francisco Chronicle reports:

Winds are pushing smoke from the north, where multiple wildfires are raging, to the south and into the Bay Area, said Jan Null, a meteorologist who runs a private forecasting service called Golden Gate Weather Services. “North winds are bringing lots of smoke from Oregon,” said Null.

Parts of the Bay Area are reporting ash falling like heavy snow.

It doesn’t smell smoky in San Francisco on Wednesday morning, just as it didn’t for most of Tuesday. Yet the color of the sky turned an even more disturbing, Hades-like orange as everyone woke today, and it’s thanks to fires that are burning far away. https://t.co/nGrYiGDrsZ

The sky over Oakland keeps getting darker and more orange. My phone kept color correcting the actual hue so I busted out my real camera @sfchronicle pic.twitter.com/ENv4WSOhUy

I wish I could share an accurate photo of just how dark, scary, orange, and awful the sky is right now at 9am in the Bay Area without doxing myself, but know that the sun is out, it’s dark, and it looks like Blade Runner rn. pic.twitter.com/PiLkn9CVlT
