A food-hunting outing turned into a rescue operation, when a family of bears found one of their own trapped inside a dumpster near a motel in Kings Beach in Placer County, California.
In video shared by the Placer County Sheriff’s Office last week, a mama bear and a cub can be seen attempting to help another cub that tumbled into a trash receptacle.
Tuesday morning deputies received a call from a #KingsBeach motel that a #bear cub was trapped in their dumpster. Deputies arrived at the motel & they found the cub’s sibling trying to open the dumpster to rescue their trapped sibling. See what happened next! #LakeTahoe

The mama bear and cub can be seen frantically surrounding the dumpster. At one point, the cub can be seen standing on the mama bear’s back in an attempt to open the lid of the dumpster and rescue its sibling.
The sheriff’s office said in a tweet deputies responded to the scene after staff from the motel reported the situation.
While the mama bear and cub scurried behind a tree to wait, deputies were able to lift the dumpster’s lid and place a ladder inside.
The trapped cub then climbed the ladder to escape the dumpster and it can be seen running to join its family.
Placer County is located on the north shore of Lake Tahoe, and residents often encounter wild animals. Officials have advised residents to be “bear aware.” Officials recommend residents and business owners secure garbage cans, or using cans with snap-on lids. “If possible, store your can inside, in a garage, shed, or wooden garbage-can enclosure,” officials said.
