Tropical system could rapidly intensify into a major hurricane before making landfall on the Gulf Coast

The tropical depression is expected to become a hurricane by Saturday morning. It “could be near major hurricane strength” when it reaches the northern Gulf Coast by late Sunday, the National Hurricane Center said.
