Special counsel Robert Mueller’s unreleased report on his Russia probe is longer than 300 pages.
Attorney General William Barr told Rep. Jerry Nadler, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, the length of the report for the investigation into whether Russia colluded with Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, a Department of Justice official confirmed to POLITICO.
Democratic lawmakers have called on Barr to quickly release the full report, which Mueller submitted Friday evening. The attorney general has not committed to publishing the full report.
Barr on Sunday released a four-page summary in which he wrote Mueller did not find a criminal conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia to sway the 2016 presidential election. Barr also wrote Mueller did not fully exonerate Trump in an obstruction of justice inquiry, but the attorney general added that he did not believe there was enough evidence to bring charges on the matter.
A source familiar with the report told POLITICO last week that it contains “lots and lots of footnotes.”
Nadler said Wednesday that he had spoken with Barr about the report, saying that he had asked about the length of the report. But Nadler did not specify how many pages it was. In addition, Nadler said Barr would not meet an April 2 deadline that Democrats gave him to release the report.
Part of the report’s review process before any release will involve determining what facts and claims in the report are derived from grand jury testimony or documents obtained through grand jury subpoenas.
“I asked about the length and breadth of the report,” the New York Democrat told CNN. Barr “said it was a very substantial report, so substantial that I don’t see how you can summarize it in four pages fairly.”
Trump has said he is willing to have the full report released but that it’s up to Barr to decide.
