President Donald Trump slammed the FBI and Justice Department via Twitter on Sunday, holding up a report about an FBI agent’s reported anti-Trump tweets as an example of the bureau’s dishonesty and indifference to Hillary Clinton’s alleged crimes. “After years of Comey, with the phony and dishonest Clinton investigation (and more), running the FBI, its reputation is in Tatters — worst in History!” Trump wrote on Twitter. “But fear not, we will bring it back to greatness.” He added: “Tainted (no, very dishonest?) FBI “agent’s role in Clinton probe under review.” Led Clinton Email probe. @foxandfriends Clinton money going to wife of another FBI agent in charge.” The president was referencing reports that a lead agent on the FBI’s probe of Clinton’s private email server sent text messages to another agent that were critical of him. According to the New York Times and Washington Post, FBI agent Peter Strzok sent the messages in question. Strzok, a counter-terrorism expert, was immediately removed from special counsel Robert Mueller’s team, but previously was a lead agent on the Clinton investigation. Trump also took the opportunity to rehash previous reports that FBI Director Andrew McCabe’s wife took campaign contributions from Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, a Clinton ally. The bureau has defended McCabe and has stressed that he had no role in the Clinton investigation until months after his wife’s campaign was over. Strzok’s messages came to light during a Justice Department Office of the Inspector General probe into the FBI’s conduct during the Clinton investigation. On Saturday night, Trump repeated his long-simmering frustrations with the Justice Department. Trump complained former national security adviser Michael Flynn was charged with lying to the FBI, but not Clinton. The president did not specify why he believed Clinton lied to the FBI; Flynn pleaded guilty to that charge last week. “Many people in our Country are asking what the “Justice” Department is going to do about the fact that totally Crooked Hillary, AFTER receiving a subpoena from the United States Congress, deleted and “acid washed” 33,000 Emails? No justice,” Trump wrote on Twitter Saturday night.
